It would take a special car to be able to replace two stalwarts in the Buick lineup, the Park Avenue and the Le Sabre; and the Buick Lucerne is that car. The front-wheel-drive Lucerne marked the long-awaited return of a V8 engine to the Buick model line in 2006, and continues to offer both a V6 and V8 for 2007. The 4.6L Northstar V8 makes 275 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, while the 3.8L V6 produces 197 horsepower. Both are mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. The Lucerne is available in three trim levels. The CX is equipped with the V6, as well as traction control, automatic level control, ABS, air bags all around, and the usual power accoutrements typical of up-level models. The CXL can be ordered with either engine. It receives a revised suspension, larger wheels, cornering headlights, heated and electrochromic mirrors, dual zone automatic air conditioning, a universal home remote, leather seat trim, and rain-sensing wipers. The CXS adds magnetic ride control, StabiliTrak, sport-tuned suspension, 18-inch wheels, fog lamps, XM satellite radio, a harman/kardon audio system, memory features, and a heated steering wheel. An alarm system, heated seats, rear parking assist, heated washer fluid, a remote vehicle starter system, a sunroof, and a bench seat are all optional equipment.
